I have the privilege of doing the reconstruction of a historic manor house that was originally built in 1906 but recently destroyed by fire. In trying to find an "in-kind" product to replace the original asbestos cement roof tiles installed when the house was built,
I cannot seem to find a substitute that is both similar in labor to install and that has a 100-year life span. Slate seems to be my only option, however, the insurance company wants me to find another product. I did use a recycled plastic & rubber product replicated to look like slate on several projects since 2001, but this product has had its issues (fading and curling) and I would not recommend using it again. Non-asbestos cement tiles can be made having the appearance of slate, but only have a service life of 50 years. Any recommendations for a 100-year product?
