Redefining the Rules: A Deep Energy Retrofit Presentation for Architects & Facility Managers
This session will explain how architects & facility managers can use the deep energy retrofit approach to broaden their portfolio to include retrofit projects on a wide scale of building types and sizes. To complete deep energy retrofit projects successfully, new skills are required such as energy modeling, life cycle cost assessment, commissioning, and measurement and verification. Additionally, this session will explain the market forces and government regulations that are driving the energy retrofit market and familiarize the audience with financial tools and incentives available to help make the deep energy retrofit market a reality. To be presented on November 5, 2015, 1-2:15 EST.

Using Air Movement to Improve Energy Efficiency
As we move increasingly toward market-viable net-zero buildings with initiatives like ASHRAE Vision 2020 and the AIA 2030 Commitment, we must reevaluate how typical building components affect a facility’s energy efficiency. Energy savings and thermal comfort gained from an increase in air movement is an important new consideration in building efficiency and energy conservation. Greg Phipps, Test Engineer at the Big Ass Fan Company, will discuss how incorporating air movement in new building designs allows reduced air conditioning capacity and duct work, opening up ceiling space. He will also address the ventilation and energy saving benefits of air movement, and will provide an in-depth review of two recent projects that demonstrate exceptional air movement strategy: Oakland Unified School District and Locust Trace High School. Presented October 22, 2013. Handout, Q&A Log and Youtube

Just Go With It

This session will address a framework for the management of client requirement information over the building information life cycle. Applications to manage the amount and complexity of the programmatic information will be reviewed in addition to techniques for data management to set a framework for using available electronic tools to enhance the way programmers facility planners work with clients. A review of capabilities for virtual communication and team collaboration is included. Presented June 7, 2012. Handout | Youtube

BIM Implications for Facilities Management
A significant opportunity exists for architects to move from a project-centric mindset to one where they become their customers “go to” person for the life of the facility, helping facilities management professionals with everything from renovations to asset management to routine maintenance with their building information model applications. This is a “must view” webinar for all architects who seek to be more valuable to their customers and facilities management professional who want a window into what will surely be replacing 2-D CAD files and O&M manuals delivered in three-inch three-ring binders.
