Free AIA Continuing Education for the Hearing Impaired

*Previously, the free webinar series was only accessible for live users. This practice excluded hearing impaired members from benefiting from the free continuing education opportunities. As part of a new initiative of the AIA Knowledge Communities, several newly transcribed webinars will also include 10-question quizzes to test for knowledge gained. Any score of 8 or higher will qualify for 1 Continuing Education Credit or AIA LU. .

On Adding On: Incremental Architecture (1 LU)

Description:Stuart Cohen FAIA and Julie Hacker FAIA (Stuart Cohen & Julie Hacker Architects) will examine strategies for making additions to existing structures that consider determining factors for both planning and architectural vocabulary. They will use examples from their practice to illustrate their approach. 

 

Beyond the ADA: Residential Universal Design (1 HSW LU)

Description:This session goes beyond basic ADA standards and focus on applying the principals of Universal Design in private residences. Participants learn the history of the Universal Design movement, compare examples of current accessible building codes regulations, and examine coming trends.  We examine the growing Aging-In-Place market and how architects can effectively provide services to the senior community. The presentation includes case studies of accessible residential projects such as; no-step entries, accessible kitchens and safe bathrooms.

 

How to Report Credit

You can earn 1 AIA continuing education credit hour for reading the webinar materials and successfully completing the quiz. You must answer eight of the ten questions correctly to earn credit. Upon completion of the quiz, click the “Submit” button at the end of the quiz to report the credit. Credits are reported and certificates emailed within 7 business.

Transcriptions of select, high-ranking webinars are now available for download as a resource. The library entries below include not only the video recording and supplemental materials, but also the transcribed webinar as a downloadable document. In addition, the transcriptions have been uploaded to YouTube so one may follow along in sync with the video presentation.
