HRC October 2023 Letter from the Chair

By Alison Karfeld posted 10-11-2023 05:51 PM

Greetings AIA HRC Members!
The HRC Advisory Board has had a busy year and planning for 2024 is well underway! Collaboration has been a key component of our work this past year in reestablishing relationships with many of our partners, holding in-person gatherings and our work on continuing the conversation regarding the SOI Standards.

An update on the SOI Standards discussion following Taliesin 2023:
• Working with our partners at the NPS Technical Services branch, we are pleased to announce that several valuable learning opportunities on the Standards will be offered at the AIA’24 Convention in DC next June.  Specifically, an all-day workshop will cover the Standards and the tax credit process – where attendees will learn about the clauses in the Standards that offer some inherent flexibility. Please be on the lookout for more information on that and be sure to sign up – we do expect them to sell out.

• The National Trust Community Investment Corporation (a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation) and the Historic Tax Credit Coalition shared the recently published Historic Preservation and the Federal Historic Tax Credit -- Addressing Challenges of the 21st Century Report – which includes nearly 20 recommendations of how the HTC program/process might be improved to face current challenges. Please see the link in the newsletter below.

• As many of you know the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation adopted a Climate Change and Historic Preservation Policy Statement – more can be found here: https://www.achp.gov/sites/default/files/policies/2023-06/Climate%20Change%20Policy%20Statement-final-_0.pdf

• Lastly, our volunteer working “task force” that will continue to look for opportunities to inform and advance the conversation around the Standards – to make them relevant and useful for our members.

Please review the newsletter below – which is chock full of important industry information and opportunities for our HRC members!

Thank you,
