Bio

Mike Kephart Biography

I was named Icon of the Industry for my work with the 50+ Council of the National Association of Home Builders. This honor was presented to me at the 50+ symposium in Phoenix Arizona in 2006.

I was designated as A Certified Active Adult Specialist in housing (CAASH) in 2008 by the National Association of Home Builders. I earned this certification by completing a four-course curriculum of one-day workshops over two years time.

In 2008 I was also certified as a Green Building Professional after completing a series of courses on the various disciplines involved in Green Building. I instituted a continuing education program within my architectural office on the science of green building and taught seminars on the subject to architect and builder groups.

There was much confusion about the ADA regulations and those of FHA (the fair Housing Act). Too often building designers were unaware of the FHA. In 2005 I taught Architects and other building professionals all across Colorado how to interpret and work with the amendments to the (FHA) with regards to the design for accessibility guidelines.

I am co-author, along with Judy Schriener, of Building for Boomers, a book on housing and community design for Baby Boomers published by McGraw Hill in March 2010.
