Navigating Building Code with a Single Source

By Scott Reynolds posted 06-08-2016 12:13 PM

Building and construction regulations shape our built environment. To establish relevant codes, we rely on collaboration between project teams and consultants. This exchange deserves a platform for reviewing and discussing regulations.

UpCodes provides a simplified platform to search and navigate building code. The goal is to promote accessibility and facilitate collaboration between architects, engineers, and construction professionals.

Resources including construction codes, fire codes and ADA guidelines are consolidated into a single source. A unified database allows for a sophisticated search platform. The search algorithm traverses multiple resources to group all related sections.

Cycling between chapters and jumping between resources is time intensive. To streamline the workflow, publication references are connected both internally and externally. This provides a smooth navigation over a range of resources.

NYC building codes and New York State building codes have been brought on board first. The goal to expand throughout the US and incorporate a larger collection of standards.

UpCodes is working to reduce all friction in locating, viewing, and sharing code. Construction codes are a large corpus of information. Increasing access and simplicity to the system can help bring our projects to realization.
