Leadership Succession and Continuity

Sooner or later, it happens to every company: for any number of reasons, the leader of the firm—President, CEO, or Managing Principal--departs. It may be due to retirement or the separation may be involuntary. Regardless of the reason for the firm leader’s departure, the succession of a new leader must follow. Leadership succession, which is inevitable, has the potential to exert a major impact on a firm’s reputation, operations, culture, and even survival; however, despite its importance, a great many—if not most—design firms don’t adequately prepare for it. Notes from the West Bank Charrette

I just returned from a week-long charrette in the village of Al Aqaba in the Palestine West Bank about which I wrote you and Andres.  We designed new houses for very poor, displaced, and infirm families, some living as multiple families in one small home, and developed a rather simple Village Plan for its long term growth from a tiny hamlet subject to periodic demolition (it's entry road was recently torn up) to a resilient, healthy, and relatively self-sufficient settlement. Read the complete message on the Regional and Urban Design Discussion Forum
