We are punchlisting a project in the very near future, and are interested in using a smartphone or tablet.

What kind of systems do you or your practice employ to make this process more streamlined?

Are there any good applications to use?

Thank you,

Brad

brad -
i have  used a variety of devices/methods for completing punch lists more efficiently in the field. my initial trial was on a tablet pc with a built-in 3g card and utilized a 'geeked up' ms excel file as a template. the byproduct was very successful, as i was able to email a pdf to my entire project team prior to even leaving the job site. this proved to be incredibly efficient and saved time and money for both the firm and client (no more recopying a paper punch list once i returned to the office - which was not local). the only catch with this method was in the somewhat convoluted process of creating and utilizing drop down menus, etc. in the excel file.

however, more recently, i have been using ms sharepoint to manage projects and found an app for my iphone (shareplus pro version) which parses the sharepoint site for effective viewing on the iphone. again, i had to do some leg work behind the scenes in order to develop a form on the sharepoint site but once that was done - everything else was very easy to use. the shareplus app allows me to pull up the site on my phone and fill out and submit forms back to the project database, and the process is really smooth and straight forward. then, from within sharepoint you can set up workflows and automated emails to send the information out to your team, etc.

while the sharepoint system requires some up front server configuration and investment, the time it saves on the opposite end of the spectrum is worth it. plus - you can then utilize the sharepoint environment to manage other projects within your firm.

hope this is helpful. here are some links to more information: http://www.shareplusapp.com/Versions/pro.htmlhttp://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/Pages/default.aspx. there are also cloud services available for sharepoint if you don't have or want the server capacity.

cheers,
kurt

You may want to email Aaron at SDI Systems.  We have used their software for not only punchlist but for Statement of Conditions inspections. Very user-friendly and flexible for level of detail desired.  aaront@sdisystem.com
