I have been asked by a client to provide very limited services for a office remodeling. AutoCAD seems overkill for such a small project and am considering using Sketchup with layout. Have others found this to be an optimal use of a different platform for smaller projects?

It depends on your knowledge of each software. I have been using AutoCad for years compared to Sketchup so I would use AutoCad first. But I do enjoy Sketchup and try to use when I can. I only use the free version but the pro version looks great with the layout capabilities. I recently did shop drawings for an airport tourist booth using AutoCad then I rendered it in Sketchup. Hope this helps. ------------------------------------------- Roberta Amico, Associate AIA Assoc. It should not be about what software to use, but what will provide the client and contractor the information needed to do the work and match your ability to get the job done quickly and make a profit.  If the Client has not placed a system on you then do it in what you are comfortable. We have completed these quick jobs with hand sketches, Sketchup, and AutoCAD.  Use what you are most efficient with and maximize your profit.

    Good Luck.
