Bio

Bill the American Institute of Architects National Director and Resource Architect for Sustainability, serving as subject matter expert on green, sustainable and high performance design, working to identify, guide and facilitate smooth access to information, knowledge and practice tools for architects.

Prior to joining AIA staff, Bill was the Vice President of Simon & Associates, Inc. a nationally recognized green building consulting firm where he advised on LEED and the practical application of sustainable design and construction practices for clients including: Tishman Speyer, MGM Mirage, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Shorenstein Properties, Beacon Capital Partners, the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, The Energy Foundation, and Walgreens. Bill is a member of the AIA California Council, USGBC's LEED Implementation Advisory Committee (IAC and AIA liaison on the USGBC’s Research Advisory Committee. Bill also represents the AIA on the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Consultative Council on Sustainability and sits on ASHRAE’s 50% Advanced Energy Design Guides (AEDG) Steering Committee.

Bill served on the San Francisco Mayor’s Green Building Task Force and as a technical advisor on San Francisco’s Green Building Ordinance. He advised California’s Attorney General (now Governor Jerry Brown) on green building, and wrote a chapter on Green Policy and Permitting in the 2009 Wiley Textbook: Fundamentals of Integrated Design for Sustainable Building by Keeler/Burke. Bill is a licensed architect in both Washington, DC and California. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Building Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
