We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

Equity in Public Schools - June 2, 12-1:30PM EST

  • 1.  Equity in Public Schools - June 2, 12-1:30PM EST

    Posted 05-14-2021 01:19 PM

For the first time ever, three CAE chapters, AIA Baltimore, AIA DC, and AIA Northern Virginia, are joining forces as a coalition to bring you an event entitled, Equity in Public Schools: Supporting our Communities through School Design, on June 2nd at 12-1:30 PM EST. All are welcome!

This virtual event will explore equity in the education systems, communities, and school facilities of three local public school districts – Alexandria City Public Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools, and Prince George's County Public Schools – each with distinctive challenges, demographics, populations, and settings. We will hear presentations from school system leaders facing challenges of inequity and resource disparity in their communities and schools, and the unique strategies established by each for the planning, design, and procurement of school facilities, followed by a facilitated discussion.

    This event will focus on:

    • The specific equity goals of each local school system
    • Considerations and strategies for the allocation of resources to optimize educational equity and support surrounding communities
    • Approaches to community engagement and distinct impacts of improved neighborhood connections
    • Strategies to overcome diversity and inclusion obstacles in our education systems
