Who we are

The Young Architects Forum (YAF), a program of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the College of Fellows (COF), is organized to address issues of particular importance to recently licensed architects.

FAQ: What is a young architect and what is an emerging professional? Young architects are architects licensed up to ten years of initial licensure, and the name does not have any relationship to age. Emerging professionals are professionals who have completed their academic studies up to the point of licensure or up to 10 years after completion of their academic studies. Although young architects are now defined as distinct from emerging professionals, many components refer to these groups similarly. For example, a local YAF group may include emerging professionals and a local Emerging Professionals Committee may include young architects.

You are invited to attend the symposium Complexity: Dutch & American Housing being held October 6-8, 2017, at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis (see website and attachment below), in conjunction with the inaugural exhibition Complex Dutch Housing, September 2, 2017 - January 28, 2018 (to travel- see attachment).

The symposium will address best housing practices by bringing 12 Dutch presenters representing four Dutch projects (designer, developer, urban planner, government officials, etc. depending upon the project). Local politicians, designers, developers and builders will host field trips to significant housing in the Twin Cities. Dialogue about the Dutch innovative complex housing projects, and tours of local projects provide the basis for a discussion of best housing practices in the Netherlands and the United States.  Please see information attached and at the website
