Who we are

The Young Architects Forum (YAF), a program of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the College of Fellows (COF), is organized to address issues of particular importance to recently licensed architects.

FAQ: What is a young architect and what is an emerging professional? Young architects are architects licensed up to ten years of initial licensure, and the name does not have any relationship to age. Emerging professionals are professionals who have completed their academic studies up to the point of licensure or up to 10 years after completion of their academic studies. Although young architects are now defined as distinct from emerging professionals, many components refer to these groups similarly. For example, a local YAF group may include emerging professionals and a local Emerging Professionals Committee may include young architects.

Scholarship: Committee on Design 2013 Palm Springs Conference

  • 1.  Scholarship: Committee on Design 2013 Palm Springs Conference

    Posted 03-15-2013 01:17 PM

A scholarship to attend this conference is being offered to an architect who has been licensed for less than 10 years. The goal of this scholarship is to introduce an architect to the Committee on Design (COD) and ask them to communicate the value of COD to other architects. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about practicing architecture and who will have an ability to communicate what they learn at the conference to a wider audience. To that end, applicants should have experience in practicing architecture as well communication skills with social media and blogging about architecture.

►  Applications are due by 5:00 PM EST on April 4, 2013

The Conference opens with a reception at 5:30 pm at the Ace Hotel on Thursday, May 9 and will end at 10:00 am on Sunday, May 12. The Conference hotel is the Riviera Palm Springs Resort & Spa.

The tours will give us the opportunity to explore the distinct modern architecture that developed in this desert setting in the middle 20th century. The tours are in the planning stages and are subject to change.
