Who we are

The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. This includes relevant research on characteristics, planning and costs associated with innovative design for aging. In addition, DFA provides outcome data on the value of these design solutions and environments.

DFAR12: Tohono O'odham Elder Home

This project is the first of four 12-bedroom, assisted living, Elder Homes located adjacent to the Archie Hendricks Skilled Nursing Facility on the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation. The Elder Home contains 12 private bedrooms with bathrooms, as well as common kitchen, dining, living, and social areas. The home is based on the Green House® model of care, although the model has been adapted to work within the culture of the Tohono O'odham people.
