The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. The design of this CCRC was intended to bring the high standards of design, care, and service for seniors to the Kansai region of Japan. Creating a large yet integrated urban community in this redevelopment district - that was rapidly transitioning from industrial to residential use - was of paramount importance.
