The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. This includes relevant research on characteristics, planning and costs associated with innovative design for aging. In addition, DFA provides outcome data on the value of these design solutions and environments.

DFAR12: St. Ignatius Nursing & Rehab Center

This community is a faith-based, non-profit, stand-alone long-term-care nursing home in an urban location. It provides assistance to low-income elderly under the ministry of the Felician Franciscan Sisters. Over 90 percent of the residence receive Medicaid. with little to no renovation over the years and a quest to add short-term rehabilitation to their services, the client sought to transform one of their long-term care corridors.
