BIMForum LOD Specification 2017 Released for Public Comment

  • 1.  BIMForum LOD Specification 2017 Released for Public Comment

    Posted 10-04-2017 07:56 AM

On October 3 the BIMForum released the 2017 Public Comment draft of its Level of Development (LOD) Specification.  It can be downloaded free of charge from www.BIMForum.org/LOD

The LOD Spec is a language that describes where a model element is on the path from vague concept to fully specified.  This language enables concise definition, at the individual element level, of complex BIMs, providing for clear specification of models for milestones, information exchanges, deliverables and the like.

With this release the BIMForum is seeking feedback from industry users.  If you have comments or suggestions please send them to lod@bimforum.org by Friday 10/20.  The feedback gathered in this effort is vital to ensuring that the Spec continues to improve in relevance and usefulness to the AEC industry.

    Updates this year include

    • Added content:
      • Room/Space Objects
      • Grids and Levels
      • Grading
      • Mechanical Fasteners
      • Formwork
    • In addition some key logic has been made more consistent

The Spec is updated annually after going through a process of new content collection and vetting, existing content review and update, and public review and feedback.
