Born in Paterson, NJ on 25 September 1951, Mr Handman graduated from Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School in 1969. He attended Syracuse University, participated in their 4th year program @ the Architectural Association in London, England (1972-73) & graduated from Syracuse University in 1974 with a B.Arch.
After working for the firm of Bohlin & Powell Architects, (know known as BCJ Architects) he established his own firm in 1980, eventually joining the firm of Eyerman, Csala & Hapeman in 1990.
Eyerman.Csala.Hapeman & Handman (ECH&H) Architects, LLC is the successor firm of several offices whose archives maintain an unbroken link to the early 20th Centuary practice of Clark Wright Evans, AIA. With Architectural registration in PA & NJ, they have designed and completed a wide varity of projects throughout Northeastern & Northcentral Pennsylvania as well as Northern New Jersey. They have been involved in large & small projects, new construction as well as renovations.
For the past 30 years, the majority of the firm's work has been in the design of additions, renovations & restoration of existing buildings. This type of Architectural work demands special skills that can only be developed & honed over time. Beyond a question of style, it requires the detailed knowledge of several previous generations construction materials & methods. The successful interface of 21st century systems, as well as the provision for future growth, with these older systems is an expertise that comes both tine & experience.
From August 2011, until December 2017, he was an Adjunct Instructor @ the Marywood University School of Architecture in Scranton, PA, teaching 3rd & 5th year design studios.
A former President of AIA NEPA in 1995, Mr. Handman was Chapter Treasurer for 21 years. Since January 2023, he has been the NEPA Chapter Delegate to AIA PA.
