On-premise/no subscription Invoice Software

    Hello People,
Can anyone suggest stand alone invoicing software for a small practice (one person) that is is easy to use, easy to create a custom template and tracks incoming and outgoing.
Simplicity is what I am looking for without a yearly subscription.
    Thank you,
    Aric

We use Intuit's QuickBooks for Mac set up for professional practice.  Works great and spits out more reports than I can use.

On a daily basis, I use a web application through Freshbooks.  It is great at tracking time, expenses, and billing.  It outputs data for my book keeper to enter into Quickbooks for true accounting.  It sends billing notification to clients and tracks all time with consultant architects, and outputs various reports.  It is a subscription model billing you monthly, but has a mobile app for your phone or tablet.  I've been using it since 2011 and, though it is fairly simply, it does most of the things i need including accepts credit card payments from clients with a 3% fee.

    Hi,

I use Wave Apps (https://www.waveapps.com/). It's free and helpful come tax time. I track all my finances through it. It can also do payroll if you need to.

    Aric,

When I was running my solo practice I used Quickbooks and found it to be very user friendly and customizable.

I am a sole practitioner and I use Harvest. It has saved me a great deal of time, it tracks your time spent on projects based on budgets you set, creates good-looking invoices and tracks those as well, and if I have question, I call and get a real human who knows how to help. It has a minimal yearly cost.

    Hi Aric,

As a sole proprietor who is certainly no CPA, I use HARVEST. (Simple Online Time Tracking Software - Harvest).

It is extremely simply and the app can be loaded on all devices for easy time tracking on the go.

You might take a look at TimeTable. It taps into the Mac calendar, which is how I log project time. It has some of the features you are looking for, but if you don’t use Macs probably useless.

    Aric,
i have been using Quickbooks pro ($200) for the last 13 years. The invoice customization is exceptional and the cost to keep up to date on release versions is nominal.

I highly  recommend Quickbooks for Single practitioners.. as a bonus , most Accountants are adept with Quickbooks and it is super easy to transfer your QB file to a thumb drive for their use during tax season.

    Peace,
    Steve

    Hello Aric,

We have a small practice and we really like using ArchiOffice Online.  They provide a few options on invoicing format but if you need a custom template, they may charge a one-time fee.  Syncing with a bookkeeping software is a different matter.  Best to discuss this option with the sale person.  Unfortunately, you'll need a yearly subscription to maintain the information.  We've accepted it as a necessary business expense.  The data you acquire over the years is worth tracking.

I've heard that Xero is also gearing up to become a project management software.  If that works well, you have the benefit of bookkeeping and project management all in one.  That also requires an on-going fee.

After many other attempts, Quickbooks does it all, without a vast learning curve. I see you are concerned about a non-subscription software, and I wish we could go back to that. But there is so much that changes regularly, including the software itself, you need to stay connected.
