After years of effort, I'm very happy with the result!  We have two great platforms participating: Graphisoft and Vectorworks.  The first launch is by Graphisoft ... for more information join the webinar on Wednesday; or see   AIACC BIM Software Member Value Program - AIACC

( Download the PDF) The AIACC is pleased to announce a new Member Value program for BIM design software in response to feedback, particularly from small firms. We are more than happy to be able to help provide access to powerful tools as options and/or alternatives - supporting full engagement in the business of architecture as a tangible and valuable benefit of AIACC membership.

This is great. My only question is, why isn't this a benefit that AIA National offers for all members?
It would be great if AIA members got discounts on all of the various software we use to practice in our profession. This is a great start and I would hope Adobe, AutoDesk and others join in partnering with the AIA. I'd love to have discounts on Revit, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.

    Thanks Lucas

As it happens I personally worked on this program as a potential national model while I was on the NationalAIA  Board of Directors.  For a number of reasons, some of which I'm frankly not clear about, I was not successful in getting it off the ground.  When I came back to AIACC leadership I continued the efforts and am happy to finally be launched.  It has been a five year journey.

I share your hope that we as professionals, through the AIA, will continue to find ways to have increasing influence on the price, features and license terms of the tools we rely on.  We have considered extended this type of program to other tools, focused on the needs of small firms.

If you'd like to see what tools are being used by small firms, check out this survey:  SmallofficeSoftware

Consider adding your firm to the list.

I brought up a similar idea when I was on the AIA Portland board a couple years ago but the Executive Director said it wasn't doable for some reason that I too failed to understand. It seems like it is possible and I hope our local board and staff try to emulate something like your program.

It seems like a no-brainer as a way to provide real value for members - a topic of conversation that many people within and without of the Institute have often. It would make joining that AIA a pretty easy sell.

Anyway, great work and thanks for sharing.

Michael,  The software study is awesome.  It needs to be published for all the membership to see.  It's a great resource.  Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks David

It's been mentioned on KnowledgeNet a few times.  Perhaps the AIA might end up making mention of it more broadly - in the magazine - based on your comment!

    Cheers

    Mike

Lucas, I agree, this would be a benefit that would even increase AIA membership.  Strange that the California Chapter can get this done and National never has.
