I've been using Revit for about 15 years now. Recently, I worked on a project on which everybody was contractually obligated to deliver a Revit model. The intention was also that everybody use Revit for design and documentation.
The electrical engineer did not have Revit in-house and he contracted it out. The Revit model was delivered anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months after the various deadlines. What it contained was accurate enough, but it was far from complete. I suppose that could be attributed to the engineer, not the Revit contractor, but I think it is indicative. I have heard similar stories many times before.
If there is an architect who uses Revit and you want to contract with them for the project, that is one thing. If you are hiring a company that builds Revit models, I would avoid it. The time delay between the design work on paper or in ACAD and the model and the inability to leverage using the model to extract information in parallel/sync with the design process undermines its usefulness.
