Bio

Jonathan Spodek received both his BS and M.Arch in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He teaches design studios and courses in building technology that include building documentation, historic building construction materials and techniques, and evaluation/diagnostic methods. Jonathan’s research interests focus on non-destructive building evaluation, specifically the use of infrared thermography as a non-destructive, non-contact method of building investigation. Mr. Spodek began ecoREHAB studio, a design/build initiative focused on involving students in the design and rehabilitation of at-risk housing utilizing sustainable building practices.
Mr. Spodek meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards as a Historical Architect and Architectural Historian. He has experience in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credits, and documentation and review of national an internationally important historic buildings and sites.
Mr. Spodek has been involved in initiatives for several professional organizations including the American Institute of Architects, the Association for Preservation Technology International, and the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training.
