Bio

Collaborating with clients on diverse projects from the scale of a private home to a $4.8 billion casino resort, Michael has given beautifully functional form to their collective vision. His work has met and exceeded the business goals of his clients while winning numerous awards and being featured in national publications.

Michael is committed to placemaking, to working within existing contexts or creating new ones in order to transform the urban fabric and leave the world a better, more sustainable place. The balancing of innovation and tradition in each project is guided by his intimate knowledge of market tested solutions. The result has been the creation of emotionally rich environments at every scale that are based on an abiding respect for people and the settings they require to realize their aspirations.

There is an intellectual rigor to Michael’s work, a capacity for critical thought and yet also a spirit of inclusiveness which bridges academic disciplines and popular culture. An unusual aspect of his resume are early studies in theater which included a year exploring human movement and space design at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris, France. As a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and a professor of architectural and urban history, theory, and design, he has demonstrated a life long commitment to research and publication.

Specialties: Master planning and architectural design of large scale mixed use, residential, hospitality, corporate and academic projects.
