Bio

Michael serves as the Director of Lean Design with BRPH, an international architecture and engineering firm.  He has over thirty years of broad experience in architectural planning, design, project management, production, and contract administration.  Michael is skilled at project and team choreography and the process of putting a building together.

Michael has actively lead efforts to identify and implement new technologies and cutting edge project delivery practices.  He coined the term and introduced the concept of “Lean Architecture”, defined as the “ongoing process of rethinking and improving architectural methodology” by the application of Lean principles to all aspects of design practice.

He served as chair of the Delivery Leadership Council with Callison-RTKL and led the BIM Steering Committee at Morris Architects / Huitt-Zollars.

He is a frequent speaker on Lean Architecture as well as Building Information Modeling (BIM).  Michael has presented at five AIA National and seventeen regional AIA conferences as well as many other industry venues across the United States since 2004.

Michael co-authored the Construction Drawings chapter for the AIA’s 15th Edition of the Architect’s Handbook for Professional Practice.  He has contributed articles to the AIA Best Practices, Chapter 13, and the AIA Practice Management Digest.
