BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
John M. Barley,II FAIA

Curriculum Vitae John McKim Barley,II was born in Tampa Florida on July 25,1943. He lived in several cites, before moving to Jacksonville in 1957. He attended Robert E. Lee High School, graduating in 1961.

John graduated from the University of Florida in 1967, with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree.

While enrolled at the University, John was employed as an architectural draftsman with Reynolds, Smith & Hills; upon graduation, he returned to this firm full time. During his twenty-year tenure at RS&H, he was promoted several times, eventually becoming Vice President - Architecture. As Project Director, he was responsible for overseeing many large projects, among them the construction of several major airports, the new Florida State Capitol, the Saudi Arabia Army Engineering Center and School, the south end zone expansion and the private boxes at Florida Field, University of Florida, as well as several projects at Disney World.

In August of 1987, John formed BArch & Associates, Inc. This firm provided the full range of architectural services throughout northeast Florida.

In July of 2000, John formed The Barley Consulting Group, LLP. This firm provides private Code enforcement services, as well as those specialty services related to contracts, project delivery methods, project scheduling, and dispute resolution.

Professional Registered as an architect in the states of Florida. Inactive license in Alabama,
Accomplishments Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, NCCARB Certificate, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Certified Building Code Administrator [Florida].

Fellow, American Institute of Architects (1993); President of the Florida Association/AIA (1987); AIA Board of Directors (1989-91); Chair, AIA Trust (1992); Trustee, AIA Trust (1990-1995); Regional Representative to The College of Fellows (1995-99); Trustee, Florida Foundation for Architecture (1999-04); and Director, Mellen C. Greeley, FAIA Scholarship Foundation (1999-04). He has chaired/or served on numerous Chapter, State and National AIA committees over the last forty plus years.

Community Service Advisory Council for the University of Florida College of Architecture; Area Chairman, State Chairman and National Trustee - Ducks Unlimited; University Hospital Development Council; Rotary; Chamber of Commerce and, over the past thirty years, numerous community organizations.

Awards/Recognition AIA Florida Gold Medal (1999); John W. Dyal Memorial Award for “Contributions to the Architectural Profession (1982); Anthony L. Pullara for “Service to the Profession” (1992); Richard Upjohn Fellowship (1991); and AIA National Service Award (1992). He is listed in Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in America.

Personal John Barley married Mary Elizabeth McCall in 1967. They are the proud parents of five children, including a grown son in Bozeman, MT; a grown daughter who is an artist in New York City; and three grown daughters residing in Jacksonville. They are also enjoying their eight grandchildren.
