    This is a great way to communicate.  However, I would caution all to be sensitive to creating any liability for yourself or the group, or damaging the credibility of the profession.

    Best Regards,

    With all due respect, this forum is designed to encourage sharing.  While I understand your concern, unless we, as a profession, share our knowledge and experiences (good and bad), we will become irrelevant.

    In today's information rich, data driven society, knowledge is created and available everywhere.  Just Google any subject and you are likely to find something out there.  Success will be measured in the future not by how high your IQ is, or how much experience you have, but by how you validate the information you get and apply it to solve the problem at hand.

    As seasoned practitioners, it is our responsibility to mentor future generations in developing those skills.  Conversely, they can teach us how to share openly (something they are very proficient at) and to use the new tools available to us.

    So, my hope for the AIA is that they continue to foster a culture of sharing and growth within the profession, not to dampen it.

    Well said Walter.  In my own experience, we need more places and vehicles for collaboration and sharing, not fewer.  I will also agree with Herman in that sharing is something of a balancing act particularly if it occurs in a venue that is open to the general public.  We all have seen remarks get misconstrued, and some innocent snippet of a conversation become a wildfire.

    Perhaps navigating this dichotomy is a key part of the current definition of being a 'professional' ...

    Cheers

    I believe all points of view are necessary for a meaningful discourse.

    As what Walter J. Hainsfurther FAIA has mentioned, this forum is designed to encourage sharing. "This is a great medium with which to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation.” ( via Code of Conduct - AIA KnowledgeNet
    )

    Let's all encourage sharing and learn from each other.

    In support of Chairperson Luis' post, I am attaching the 2010 Knowledge Strategy that was adopted by the AIA Board of Directors.  I assume that it is still in effect.  Please read it and, more importantly, incorporate it into your practices.
