The Practice Management Knowledge Community (PMKC) identifies and develops information on the business of architecture for use by the profession to maintain and improve the quality of the professional and business environment.  The PMKC initiates programs, provides content and serves as a resource to other knowledge communities, and acts as experts on AIA Institute programs and policies that pertain to a wide variety of business practices and trends.

    Call for Presentations

    Broadening the Perspective of Technology in Architectural Practice

    October 19, 2012 ' Stanford University Center for Integrated Facility Engineering ' Palo Alto, CA

    Broadening the Perspective of Technology in Architectural Practice seeks to showcase cutting-edge uses of technology in architectural practice, research and education. This conference will explore the many kinds of technology that architects and other building professionals use to make their practices more innovative and help them thrive in the evolving collaborative, interconnected and data-centric building industry.

    Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) technologies focused on:

    • Knowledge creation & stewardship
    • Project evaluation and metrics
    • Education
    • Business development
    • Communication / Social Networking / Collaboration
    • Business processes / Practice management
    • Project management
    • Set-based design / Analysis tools / Computational design

    A portion of the conference will be webcast. Cities where a local venue for the webcast has been established include Columbus, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Phoenix, with others in progress. Presentations should be a maximum of 20 minutes in length. Please submit no more than 20 slides and an outline of main speaking points by email to tap@aia.org before August 1. Presentations may not include videos or links to external content.

    Speakers must register their submissions by completing the form available online here. Closing date for submissions is August 1, 2012.
