    Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year! I hope that your 2017 is off to a great start and that you have enjoyed the holidays.

I’m honored to serve as Chair of the American Institute of Architects Practice Management Knowledge Community (AIA PMKC) Advisory Group this year and would like to share current activities and those coming up this year.

The AIA PMKC’s mission to discover, generate, organize, and share insights, resources, including tools that enable architects to practice more effectively, has been demonstrated in the notable initiatives and programs completed last year. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of the AIA PMKC Advisory Group with immediate past Chair, Dave Richards FAIA.

This year, I am delighted to welcome two new members to our Advisory Group: Larry Paschall AIA, CEO and Top Dog at Spotted Dog Architecture LLC in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; and Muriel Watkins, President at MW Financial, Inc. in Potomac, Maryland. They join the rest of the AIA PMKC Advisory Group that includes immediate past Chair Dave Richards FAIA, Seth Anderson AIA, Matt Shoor AIA, and AIA National Staff Kathleen Simpson (Director of Knowledge Communities), Emma Tucker, and Timothy Hawk representing BoKnoCo.

We continue the PMKC’s mission and vision to serve as an essential resource for advancing the practice of architecture with exciting established and novel activities. They include: Practice Management Digest, Best Practices, strengthening our Web Presence and Outreach, producing AIAU Educational Content, events and workshop at the 2017 AIA National Convention, a Symposium in the Fall, A/E ProNet Scholarship to college students, partnership programs with AIA Trust, opportunities for Sponsorship, a new awards program, and opportunities for partnerships with like-minded groups and initiatives.

As a member of PMKC, you have access to this forum of 11,000++ members nationwide, to get answers to your practice questions. Share the love! Did you know that anyone can sign-up for the PMKC by selecting the “Practice Management Knowledge Community” in the list of group options when updating your account on AIA.org?

I am confident that you will find activities in our community that would be of interest and add value to your architecture practice, that will in turn help you contribute to society. We also welcome any ideas, suggestions, or feedback you may have at our Social Media accounts on Twitter: @AIA_PMKC and Facebook: @AIAPracticeManagement. Or you can send me a message directly via this AIA KnowledgeNet Platform. I'm here to listen.

    I wish everyone a very productive 2017.

    Sincerely,

    Lira

    Lira,

Thank you for the cordial message.  As a Past Chair, I truly appreciate the contributions of PMKC Advisory Group members and the amount of volunteer time that each of you donates.  Keep up the good work -- there's many of us from who you seldom hear that place great value on the PMKC's initiatives.
