Bio

“We owe it to the fields that our houses will not be the inferiors of the virgin land they have replaced. We owe it to the worms and the trees that the buildings we cover them with will stand as promises of the highest and most intelligent kinds of happiness.”- The Architecture of Happiness, Alain de Botton

My existence in the field of Architecture is one based on exercising the ability to design not only with creativity but with mindful care and meaningful impact. My passion is to push for positive architecture, related to sustainability, the contexts in which we function, the connections and communities we invest in, and the quality and craft of life we experience through design.

This passion developed from an upbringing near Detroit, Michigan which had a major influence on my interests in the balance of modern and historic structures as well as how communities and people can be negatively or positively impacted by design. My mindset and trajectory has also been impacted by a few I have deemed as “The Greats”. They expanded my heart and mind regarding the impact of design. I’ve learned how understanding the importance of values and taking a stance can be empowering for you and those the profession serves. These experiences and encounters have allowed me to to find the values within
my passion, in which I believe

  • the process is just as important as the outcome.
  • in a methodology and product that shows everyone’s well-being and the Architect’s are intertwined.
  • how details give quality to the bigger picture.
  • being both a designer and a builder have value; having conceptual thoughts for exploration and direct interactions with the material world for reality.
  • that “special” Architecture isn’t and doesn’t always have to be “Starchitecture”.
  • a spectrum of architecture exists for different purposes, each having a role and a special place in the world and in our lives; from challenging us to comforting us.
  • we can act as professional designers and expert citizens in the humanity of architecture, individually and collectively; what a building says about us and to us.
  • in creating a built environment that increases the human experience.
