Bio

Ross G. Spiegel, FAIA, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, LEED® AP BD+C, is an Associate and Senior Specification Writer with the Connecticut based architectural / engineering firm Fletcher-Thompson, Inc. Ross is responsible for creating written construction documents as well as establishing technical standards and processes for the firm. Ross is also responsible for the LEED Certification process on Fletcher-Thompson projects and leads the firm’s Green Team.

In 1994, Ross was appointed as the Construction Specification Institute's (CSI) liaison to the U.S. Green Building Council, a position he continues to serve in today. Ross has served on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Board of Directors, the LEED Steering Committee, chaired the Council’s Nominating Subcommittee, several USGBC committees and task teams, and was the founding Chair and member of the Steering Committee for the Council’s Greenbuild International Green Building Conference & Expo for over nine years.

In addition, Ross has chaired the Green Building Certification Institute’s (GBCI) Credentialing Steering Committee since August 2008, which is responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of existing and future LEED credentialing programs under GBCI.

Ross has also been an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the Construction Specifications Institute and served as either a board member or officer in both organizations on the local, regional, and national level.

As a speaker, Ross has addressed national and local audiences on sustainability topics ranging from LEED in Specifications to The Role of the Structural Engineer in LEED Certification.

In August 1999 John Wiley & Sons published Green Building Materials: A Guide to Product Selection and Specification written by Ross and his co-author, Dru Meadows, AIA, FCSI, CCS. Green Building Materials has been called “an essential tool for designing environmentally friendly buildings.” The third and expanded edition of this seminal book was published in November 2010.

Ross is a registered architect in Connecticut, Florida and New York, is NCARB certified, a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), a Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA), and a LEED® Accredited Professional with Specialty.
