PARIS – 10 March– The city of Suncheon –South Korea, announces a single stage ideas competition
with the aim of identifying the best proposal for the Suncheon Art Platform in the city centre. It is
supported by the International Union of Architects and the Korean Institute of Architects and will be
conducted according to the UNESCO/UIA Regulations for international competitions.
Reassembling historic assets scattered throughout the city in tandem with the ongoing Urban
Regeneration Projects, the Suncheon Art Platform project responds to the city’s demand to cultivate its
cultural heritage and to have a tourist hub with an iconic architectural landmark.
On a 10 514 M2 site, the Art Platform includes an art centre, a visitor centre, and a new Yeonja-ru (the
ancient gazebo of the city). As the heart of the urban regeneration project, it is envisioned that this
design competition will lead to a built outcome where all of the spaces have been designed in unison,
where buildings and public space are combined in a creative and harmonious way in connection with
the surrounding environment.
Participation is open to architects allowed to practice in their home countries; to students majoring in
architecture or related fields as a team led by an architecture professor or a practicing architect.
