General information and expectations
The AIA Knowledge Communities are volunteer member-led special interest groups of the AIA national organization. They help members to connect with others who share the same passions and commitment—and develop a project that advances the profession and the collective work of the AIA. Traditionally each group is led by five leaders and supported by project-based committees along with partial AIA staff support.
As an AIA Knowledge Community, the AIA Historic Resources Committee's (HRC) mission is to identify, understand, and preserve architectural heritage, both nationally and internationally. HRC is engaged in promoting the role of the historic architect within the profession through the development of information and knowledge among members, allied professional organizations, and the public. On behalf of HRC, we encourage all to participate in our international discourse by applying to serve in a leadership role. The HRC Advisory Group (AG) is comprised of <g class="gr_ gr_53 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="53" data-gr-id="53">a five members</g> who serve for up to five years. We are currently seeking statements of qualifications from individuals who are interested in serving on the AG. We currently have one (1) open position that would begin in January 2017 and end December 2021.
Duties and Expectations
- Assist in increasing engagement with other architects interested in Historic preservation by brainstorming and implementing innovative ideas for web content and education.
- Present knowledge at associated organizational events, typically one to two times a year. Travel for these events may or may not be reimbursed.
- Participate in monthly coordination conference calls and general administrative functions of HRC
- Help plan the annual HRC Taliesin Colloquium at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona
- Continue to grow the relationships HRC has with Allied organizations who are also working with preservation and building reuse.
Submission requirements
- Letter of interest including a vision (of what would you like to accomplish during your appointment as an AG member).
- Resume including:
- Professional accomplishments
- Skills (include curriculum vitae outlining learning environment design, awards, publications, speaking events, knowledge sharing; what are the particular skills that you would bring to the committee that complement the existing AG).
- Letter of commitment (include a statement of commitment from a leader in your firm that demonstrates your firm’s commitment to supporting your involvement as an AG member).
