The Texas Historical Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of the Division of Architecture. Based in Austin, this position serves as the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer for Architecture and oversees some of the agency's most successful programs including the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program, the Texas Preservation Trust Fund grant program, both federal and state preservation tax credit programs, the agency's covenant program, and review and compliance functions.

The courthouse program has distributed more than $300 million toward the full restoration of nearly 70 of Texas' 250 historic county courthouses. The state tax credit program has, since January 1, 2015, facilitated more than $3 billion in construction activity in towns across the state. The Trust Fund program makes annual grants in support of a wide variety of preservation projects. And Texas is now developing its application for more than $12 million in grant funds from the recent Congressional appropriation in support of Hurricane Harvey-damaged historic resources.

There has never been a more exciting time to join the staff at the Texas Historical Commission, and the Division of Architecture is at the center of this activity. Not to mention that Austin is a great place to live.

This position supervises around 15 FTE, and reports directly to the Executive Director and SHPO. Candidates must obtain registration as an architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners, either through examination or reciprocity, within six months of hire date.
