The Texas Historical Commission, state agency for historic preservation, reconstructed a Caddo grass house in East Texas.
Building the Past: Grass House Returns to Caddo Mounds.
Second the suggestion to look at Colonial Williamsburg, I returned last summer and a building was being reconstructed on Market Square.

Your student might want to contact the folks at Colonial Williamsburg, which has a lot of reconstructed buildings. Although most of the work was done decades ago, I believe they are still doing some reconstruction work of various outbuildings.

Jonathan,
We were involved extensively in the recent restoration of The Gibbes Art Museum on Meeting Street in Charleston, SC. While this was a restoration it was quite a complex and interesting project in that the original drawings were uncovered in the Charleston archives and Evans and Schmidt - the architecture firm overseeing the work - used these drawings to bring the building back to her original design. This structure's evolution over the years might add an interesting element to the analysis as a comparative case study from a design standpoint.

Jonathan,
Regarding your inquiry into “reconstruction” examples, Quinn Evans Architects has had two opportunities working with Mt. Vernon to recreate buildings that once stood on the plantation during George Washington’s lifetime: The Treading Barn and Distillery. Both are part of Mt. Vernon’s ongoing commitment to present a more complete picture of Washington, in these instances as farmer and whiskey maker. The extent of historic documentation on the two structures varied significantly. The Treading Barn is as close a recreation as possible, built according to Washington's design board-for-board. The Distillery required more conjecture. If these sounds like appropriate examples for your student, I'm sure we can make arrangements for sharing more information about these spectacular reconstruction projects.
Best regards, Carl

I have a student who is working on her capstone project for an Historic Preservation Degree. She will be completed 4 case studies based on the 4 treatments outlined the Secretary of the Interior Standards. For her project she will be interviewing the firm or organization who designed/oversaw these projects.
She is having a difficult time finding an example of a Reconstruction to use for this project. Is anyone aware of or was involved in a recent (preferably within the past 10 years) reconstruction project? And would be willing to share information and talk with this student about the project?
Thank you
