I am soliciting opinions about preferences for SketchUp vs Revit as a visualization tool for a historic property.
The project is a Federal Style house where the interior woodwork was removed and saved before a remodeling project (decades ago). We are restoring the house and will replace as much of the original woodwork as possible. The challenge is that there are no records for the location of the woodwork. I think that drawing the wood elements separately in 3D and then the and the house in 3D would help sort out locations and visualize the restoration. I feel confident that I could easily do this with SketchUp because I'm familiar with the software and the wood detail is conducive to SketchUp's capabilities - but I'm wondering if it might be a missed opportunity not to use Revit. (I'm great at AutoCAD but still learning Revit). Are there advantages to using Revit? Is it worth the time to invest learning the Revit?
