The American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education (AIA-CAE) invites you to join us for a virtual Town Hall meeting to learn more about our safe school initiative Cultivating Community and Safety in Schools:  The Convergence of Education, Mental Health, Security, Justice and Housing. In 2018 and 2022, we held national convenings in Portland Oregon and Washington DC  to address holistic strategies for safe and secure learning environments that welcome & celebrate all learners and build community - now and for the future. Through collaboration with AIA Knowledge Community expertise in Health, Housing and Community, Justice, and Interiors, our cross-sector approach brings diverse perspectives, voices, and experiences to the task of co-creating an equity framework for cultivating safe, and welcoming school communities. In this virtual Town Hall we will share and discuss in small breakout groups the following:

Learning Objectives

·       Key principles of our cross-sector values-based framework centered on student quality of life and well-being.

·       Example of how educators, practitioners, and community members have worked together to conduct their own informed conversations to objectively evaluate and implement community-led solutions.

·       How national convening outcomes have influenced the development of an equity framework for safe, welcoming schools with actionable strategies for use by practitioners, educators, community members.

  • Opportunities withing current legislation in the Federal pipeline that serve to address safe schools and student mental health.
