AIA CES INFO:
Submitted for approval for 1.5 AIA HSW LUs (approval pending for course #AIACES071619)

NOTE: If you missed our January 24 webinar on the Architecture 2030 ZERO Code, you can watch that introductory session (http://bit.ly/2tBotRj) before checking out this presentation on how you can advocate for the Zero Code’s inclusion in the next edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
We are currently undergoing the largest wave of urban growth in human history. By 2060, the world is projected to add 2.5 trillion sq ft of buildings, or an area equal to the entire current global building stock. This is the equivalent of adding an entire New York City to the planet every 34 days for the next 40 years.

Learn about the ZERO Code Renewable Energy Appendix proposal for the IECC (see the fact sheet at http://bit.ly/2LH4n2w and the proposal CE264-19 at http://bit.ly/2LIJmEO), its key features and how compliance would be achieved. The ZERO Code Renewable Energy Appendix is a proposed appendix to the 2021 IECC to require that new commercial, institutional, and mid-/high-rise residential buildings install or procure enough renewable energy to achieve zero-net-energy on an annual basis. The appendix encourages onsite renewable energy systems when feasible, but also supports offsite procurement of renewable energy through a variety of methods. This appendix does not allow renewables to be traded off against the energy efficiency required by the 2021 IECC & would be mandatory where adopted by law.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1) Design buildings that comply with that comply with ZERO Code Renewable Energy Appendix.
2) Explain to ICC voting members the importance of the ZERO Code Renewable Energy Appendix and the various options for compliance.
3) Investigate viable options for off-site procurement of renewable energy and make client recommendations.
4) Understand the ICC voting process and how to advocate for the passage of the appendix.
