Description
This course is for those who have a limited to moderate knowledge of medical equipment planning for healthcare facilities. It begins with an overview on the origins and history of medical equipment planning as a discipline followed by a subjective overview of the changing roles, responsibilities and expectations of the modern medical equipment planner. An overview of what to expect from today’s medical equipment planner follows. In addition, an overview of the challenges and trends currently facing the healthcare design industry is presented. The presentation concludes with a summary of innovative and future trends in the field of medical equipment planning. Attendees will leave with an understanding of current best practices and future trends as it relates to the field of medical equipment planning.

Gregg Ostrow, AIA
Gregg graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1984 and became a licensed architect in 1987. From 1998 to 2008, Gregg was the Facility Architect for the St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho where he worked on over 400 health care projects ranging from Medical Imaging Equipment Replacement projects to Master Planning Regional Healthcare Campuses. Since then he has been consulting for the local hospital systems and has served on the Board of the Idaho Society of Healthcare Engineers.

Suraj S. Soudagar
Suraj, an Associate Principal and Project Executive at IMEG, whose experience includes working at New York Presbyterian Hospital (2016-2017 Ranked 6th Best Hospital in the US by US News & World Report). He is seasoned clinical engineer who represented NYPH’s Clinical Engineering Department on construction projects of all sizes as a medical equipment planner and expert technical resource. Suraj’s continuous self-education on healthcare equipment and development of outstanding rapport with end-users, ensures an additional edge in project planning, equipment selection and procurement. His negotiation skills during procurement translates to minimal unnecessary equipment options and has saved millions of dollars for clients. With his understanding of various clinical departments and eye for detail, Suraj offers innovative solutions to his clients. He also evaluates newer technological trends for their implementation in the planning process, while keeping patient safety as his top priority. He has been recipient of CSE’ 40-under-40 award. Suraj has been associated with awarding winning projects every year starting from 2015. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and serves a Trustee (past-President) for the Clinical Engineering Association of Illinois (CEAI), a local chapter of AAMI.
