Student Challenge 2020 Jury/Judging

This exciting annual event is designed to stimulate critical inquiry, creative ideas and multi-disciplinary interaction between students and design professionals. It will highlight the brilliance and innovation of our future health care architects, engineers, construction managers and nurses. Students from five different universities and disciplines will bring their creativity and ideas to this fun and evocative design charrette.

During this time, students will present work completed during the three-day-long challenge for critique by a multi-disciplinary jury and the winning will be team announced.

Academy Update

Join colleagues and friends at the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health Update for an update on our strategic plan, as well as other programs and initiatives for 2020. Meet the 2020 Board and Student Design Challenge teams, network with new colleagues and catch up with those you already know. The update is open to all attendees and we encourage all to attend.

Emerging Professionals Forum
March 23, 7-8am

Engaging and unifying the next generation of health care design leaders will equip them to lead the advancement of the health care built environment. We invite you to join us in a conversation about and with the next generation of our profession. This forum is intended to spur interaction between the future leaders of our profession and to unite them as a force for improving the future of health care design. The discussion will also link these future leaders with the current leaders of our profession to create opportunities for mentorship and continued growth.

Medical Equipment and Technology Forum
March 23, 7-8am

The Medical Equipment and Technology Forum is a platform for conversation about leading-edge technology among owners, architects, engineers, facility managers, contractors, equipment and technology planners, and vendors. Panelists will provide insights of latest technologies and how owners are making decisions at an increased pace for assuring connectivity and investments in systems that improve the quality of care.

Student Challenge 2020 Overview and Winner Presentation

This session will be an overview of the three day long challenge followed by presentations by the winning teams.

Codes and Standards Forum: Programming and Planning

March 24, 7-8am

This presentation explores the unique architectural impacts related to codes in the acute care environment. The design approach and the specific features of health design on the various service lines and support areas in the hospital require specific knowledge, particularly regarding their applicability to patient and staff safety. Also, the codes and standards for health design will be reviewed as well as their impact on the delivery of patient care.

Professionals in Health Care Organizations Forum
March 24, 7-8am

The Professionals in Health Care Organizations Forum is a platform for the interaction and open discussion between professionals working in health care facilities (architects, engineers, biomedical engineers, contractors, facility managers, risk managers, etc.) and consultant design professionals. This forum will review some of the administrative and practical issues associated with the delivery and operations of health care projects, with audience participation.
