Call for session proposals for:
The Climate of Urban Design

The second symposium on the future of Urban Design Education and Practice

February 27-28, 2020 | Austin, Texas

The Regional and Urban Design Committee (RUDC) at the American Institute of Architects is partnering with the School of Architecture at The University of Texas, Austin to bring together leading academics, practitioners, and theoreticians to discuss the critical issues facing the profession and environment. This program builds on the January 2019 Symposium “Bridging the Gap: The Future of Urban Design Education and Practice”. The purpose of this symposium series is to establish an ambitious agenda for urban design practice and education for 2020 and beyond.

We are seeking proposals addressing issues of climate, context and the environment.

Do you have an idea for a session? Please submit your idea by 11:59pm EST December 6 to start the conversation. All submissions will be peer-reviewed.

Haven't finalized your idea? Start your submission with at least your name and email, and you'll receive a link to edit it.

Question to be answered in your submission:

How will your session address the critical issues of climate, context and the environment in respect to urban design practice and education?

We are seeking proposals for:

  • 20-minute presentations (15-minute presentation plus 5 minutes for questions)
    • These could be demos, theory or practice, case studies, original research, etc.
  • 60-minute multi-speaker sessions (45 minute session plus 15 min for questions)
    • We expect you to organize the speakers but the format is up to you. In these longer blocks, we want to give space for dialogue and conversation around an issue or project.
  • 5-minute lightning talks
    • Want to show off a new project, introduce a hypothesis or just have something to say? These 5 min lightning talks are the perfect place to get in front of an audience and get your idea out there.
