Social infrastructure – a term that has come to include parks, plazas, restaurants, retail lobbies, and many other kinds of social gathering spaces – are a key force in creating strong communities, which in turn are often better prepared for climate change risks. Designing these spaces is critical to boost social cohesion and climate resilience, while adding value to the built environment, and architects are uniquely poised to deliver them.
