Sophia Sparklin's headshot

Sophia Sparklin, AIA
Principal, Spark Architecture

Sophia Sparklin founded Spark Architecture in 2012. Located Downtown Great Falls, Montana, Sophia loves bringing her “crazy European Ideas” to projects while also being deeply involved in the community. While she holds Architecture Degrees from Germany and Arizona State, licenses in AZ and MT, as well as LEED, WELL, and NCARB accreditations Sophia recognizes Architecture as a team sport. Sophia is on a quest to build teams who can collectively integrate health, sustainability, and beauty into each project. With that goal she is currently re-organizing the firm into a B-Corp (Public Benefit Corporation), and actively growing Spark’s diverse team of local, national, and international collaborators.

Sophia continues to be highly engaged in the AIA. She has been a board member of AIA Montana for seven years, and currently serves as Immediate Past President. She just completed her position as Advisor for the Center for Practice at AIA National, is currently Co-Chair for the Northwestern and Pacific Region Firm Awards. Before moving to Montana, Sophia designed Community, Rec and Athletic Centers on six Arizona College Campuses as an architect with Architekton. Sophia’s Arizona work received numerous awards, including the Arizona Masonry Award, The Metal Building Award, and the IIDA Interior Space Award. Her Master’s Thesis “Stress and Studios” won the Environmental Design and Research Association’s Student Paper Award. Her findings of continued stress having negative effects on performance and creativity have been the driving motivation of building a firm that can prove it.
