When:  Jul 12, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (ET)

Welcome to the Environmental Design Lab
July 12 at 12pm ET | free | 1LU/HSW

The Environmental Design Lab is a youth-led professional design studio based within the Juxtaposition Arts collective. Apprentices design for public spaces, engage in architectural theory and practice, and lead community engagement and research. Projects have activated street corners, turned bike racks into unique works of public art, and re-imagined a number of public space projects with input from community members.

Join this webinar to understand our curriculum, how we execute client projects, and develop the design talent of primarily BIPOC North Minneapolis youth and connect them to the design industries.

Presenter:

Niko Kubota is a public artist and architect focused on community engagement with a passion for moving the field of architecture beyond its status quo. Niko’s public art seeks out stories from community participants and uses novel techniques to share these stories through sculpture. At Juxtaposition, he teaches apprentices the tools of architecture and making so that they will be the creators of not just their careers, but also the neighborhoods they live in. Niko brings a well-traveled design perspective from work and study in Tokyo, Maine, Denmark, and Haiti.
