Decarbonization and the Future of RCFE Design

October 24 | 3-4pm ET | Earn 1 AIA LU/HSW

Description

The 2022 California Energy Code going into effect this coming January will influence the way Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) are planned, constructed, and operated in the future. The coming changes range from battery back-up to electric-ready infrastructure, impacting commercial kitchens, laundries, energy resilience and grid dependence, to name a few. The spirit of California’s energy codes are already being adopted in major cities around the country and likely will have far-reaching effects on how we build for a carbon neutral future in every city, county, and block in the coming decades. In this session, we will walk through some of the most important coming changes and how they will impact RCFEs. As designers we have the opportunity to help our clients create safe homes built with clean energy in ways that do not exacerbate the climate crisis and actually save owners money over the long term.

Learning objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify about how the 2022 Energy Code Updates will impact RCFE design and construction and impacts future safety implications.
  • Learn how all-electric infrastructure requirements will impact commercial kitchens and laundries design and how decarbonization impacts future wellness.
  • Participants will learn strategies for providing energy resilience that is independent of the grid and creates long term safety.
  • Learn how decarbonizing building infrastructure can result in long-term energy and cost savings and future safety.
