Communities across the United States are facing severe economic, social, physical and mental health impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been reported by the CDC that 40% of Americans are struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues since March 2020. This phenomenon has resulted in a second curve that needs flattening—a global behavioral health crisis—creating another public health emergency. What role will the built environment play in helping mitigate this crisis? What does the future of mental health design look like? We have put together a panel of Behavioral Health experts from a range of fields, spanning design to policy to discuss these pressing issues that are at the forefront of resolving the next global crisis.

PANELISTS:

Dr. Peterson, Chief, Division of Child Psychiatry, CHLA
Alison Birnie, Clinical Director of ED/Trauma/CCU & Behavioral Health, Huntington Hospital
Richard Tannahill, OSHPD
Anosha Zanjani, Behavioral Health Specialist, HDR
Brian Giebink, Behavioral Health Specialist, HDR

Moderators and co-chairs of AIA AAH PF: M. Ferial Asadies (HDR) and Brian Cravens (CRTKL)
