Returning from a few days of vacation abroad one sees the local paper from a widened perspective. A two page spread devoted to squeegee solicitation in Baltimore (kids that wash windshields for money at intersections) caught my eye as well as an article about five persons shot dead in a total of nine shootings one weekend alone. If I had returned to St Louis, Philadelphia, Chicago or many other larger US cities roiled by new waves of violence the local news wouldn't have been much different.
