Another position/title similar to a "Chief Architect" or "Command Architect" would be the "State Architect".

As the retired Colorado State Architect for the past 25 years (and former certified state employee in the Senior Executive Service) the position was and is statutorily responsible for the administration of state funded capital construction at state agencies and institutions of higher education, including statewide:

    - prioritization and funding recommendations to the governor's office and the general assembly,
    - procurement process for the selection of design and construction services,
    - standardized contract templates for all professional services and project delivery methods.
    - project management and dispute resolution,
    - code, energy conservation and environmental protection compliance,
    - project closeout, tracking and reporting to the governor's office and general assembly,
    - facility audit process and annual major maintenance budgeting for all state funded facilities.

The current State Architect for Colorado is:

           Tana Lane, AIA

Although a few other states have the position of  "State Architect" with varying levels of responsibilities, I do not know of any list.

    Thank You,

Regarding the Government Architect, at least in my positions with the federal judiciary, we do not, generally, check conformance with codes, etc. That is the job of the design architects we hire. Not to say we don't point out code or ABAAS issues we observe, but we do not perform extensive code reviews. We do, though, check conformance with applicable agency standards, design guides, and regulations.

Additional responsibilities you may consider is, "Maintaining the integrity of the government's built inventory for the good of people," and "Adapting and Reusing the architecture of yesterday for the needs to today and tomorrow."

As for locating us in a list, the judiciary and the Administrative Office of the Courts employ many architects, but you will not find us in a list on the internet. Same for most federal level agencies.

    Regards,

    Pamela
