Who we are

The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. This includes relevant research on characteristics, planning and costs associated with innovative design for aging. In addition, DFA provides outcome data on the value of these design solutions and environments.

  • 1.  Research Question

    Posted 09-07-2012 02:19 AM
Will anyone in this community be interested in participating in or simply sharing opinions on a research project that attempts to integrate the visualization and code-compliance checking enabled by building information modeling (BIM) in aging-in-place design?

We're at an initial stage of a 360 degree assessment of this idea, and we need input from the professional community. Please post here if you're interested!

    Thank you!

I am not sure I understand the objective or specific input for this research project.  But I am passionate about the universal design appraoch to buildings and the tsunami of aging citizens of our country and the planet.  Having served on an Aging Readiness Task Force in our county for a year, I am deeply committed to the dialogue and social impacts of our practices on this growing segment of the local community.  Fill me in on the details and terminology I am missing from a couple decades away from the halls of higher education.
