Bio

Now the principal of Peter Piven Management Consultants, a new consultancy he formed in January, 2010, Peter Piven was a founding principal of The Coxe Group, Inc., the oldest multidiscipline firm providing management consulting services to architects and other design professionals. Mr. Piven has helped architects improve their practices in the areas of overall organization, strategic planning, marketing, project delivery, financial management, merger/acquisition assistance and, especially, ownership and leadership transition.

Mr. Piven received a BA degree with high honors from Colgate University, a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science degree in Architecture from Columbia University, and a Certificate in Management of Design Organizations from Harvard. He has focused his career on management issues in the design professions and was elevated to Fellowship in the Institute in 1981 for his contributions in management.

Mr. Piven has instructed "Professional Practice" and "The Design of Design Organizations" at the University of Pennsylvania, "Practice Seminar" at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and "Starting a Design Firm" at Harvard's GSD Executive Education program. He is co-author of "Success Strategies for Design Professionals." His books "Architect's Essentials of Ownership Transition" (with Bill Mandel), "Architect's Essentials of Starting a Design Firm" (with Brad Perkins), and "Architect's Essentials of Starting, Assessing and Transitioning a Design Firm" (with Brad Perkins) were published in 2002, 2003 and 2008, respectively.
