On Thursday July 30th, the CAE Research ThinkTank hosted it's sixth virtual conversation, The Great Indoors: The Surprising Science of How Buildings Shape Our Behavior, Health, and Happiness featuring a discussion between science writer Emily Anthes and Metropolis' Director of Design Innovation and design advocate Susan S. Szenasy. The conversation touched on strategies for improving human health in the built environments through access to daylight, fresh air and views and the historical discoveries of Florence Nightingale. Emily also described visits to the Mayo WELL Living LAB and Gallaudet University and lessons learned from meeting with experts there which can be applied to the design of our built environments today, especially in this time of concern over harmful pathogens and viruses.
